Welcome to the Music Department at JVirina College of the Arts! We are proud to offer a program rich in history.
The JVirina Music Department gives you space and time for experimentation, exploration, and personal mentorship from faculty and guest artists. Our program will provide an education of great depth. We strive to be flexible and broad-based. This allows you to understand and generate artistic work. The Jvirina environment fosters collaboration.
Our goals include the following:
Goal #1
To encourage the individual student’s musical, artistic and intellectual development.
Objectives:
- Students will develop an understanding of a musical notation system, building a theoretical foundation and understanding of standard melodic, rhythmic and harmonic structure.
- Students will be familiar with musical styles and genres from different cultures and historical periods.
Goal #2
To provide students with an academic environment rich in opportunities for personal challenge, musical interaction with other musicians and with audiences.
Objective,
- To teach students to use their musical skills and knowledge to enrich their own lives and the lives of others through performance, instruction and service to the community.
- To help students retain and enhance their own, individual love of music.
